Review # 2 was written on 2011-01-09 00:00:00 Christopher Hewitt First of a two books (next is Father for Keeps). Jennie and her sister Kate have had quite a year. Their parents died without leaving much money behind, they had to find a way to keep their house, Kate thought she was in love and the scoundrel ran off and Kate is not pregnant, the biddies of the town are accusing the girls of running a whorehouse basically because they are renting to three miners and then enters Carter Jones the new district attorney in Vermillion and the biddies are pushing him to order the girls to close their boarding house. Carter was illegitimate and looks at life from someone who came from nothing and is going to make his way up the ladder. Jennie had loving parents who did not care about others opinions. Just when Jennie and Carter seem to be on the road to happiness he agrees with Lyle Wentworth that Kate should give her baby to a two parent family, as he thinks of his childhood and the rough parts of it. There are such interesting people in this book and such extremes it stays interesting. |
