Review # 1 was written on 2012-03-20 00:00:00 Isidro Castro I admit, I have a hard time with traditional Harlequin book titles. I know there's some weird logic having to do w/reader knowing exactly what the book is about, but still. If it's too hokey, I'll roll my eyes and not pick it up. This is one I waffled on, but picked up from the trade shelf at work, so thought I'd check it out. It was a fun, if fluffy, read. The heroine is coordinating the Prince of Belegovia's PR tour of the the U.S. - specifically Texas - when he decides to go AWOL and runs off with a local waitress. Poor Lady Gwen (and I was hard-pressed NOT to compare her to Charlotte from Princess Diaries) has to cover her ass, HIS ass, and try to finish the tour without ANYONE (mainly his father the KING) finding out he's gone. Enter lookalike hero Hank McCauley. Problem - Texas rodeo cowboy is NOT a prince of anything. Rough & ready, laidback, straightforward and brutally honest. NOT a politician. But he has an ulterior motive. A little spit and polish to rub elbows with the rich, social-elite who might want to buy his horses. But can he learn enough in a crash course to pull it off? This was a cute book. The plot was helped by the fact that no one on tour (save Gwen and the valet, who were IN on the switch) was all that close to the real prince. A fictitious bout of larygitis may have been a bit contrived. But it was a fun, fast read. I did find myself trying NOT to compare this book to Suzanne Brockmann's "Prince Joe" and failing miserably. It is interesting - there are only so many plots in reality and what's fun is seeing everyone's unique twist on a classic theme. And I loved Lady Gwen, Charlotte-esque or not!
