The beginning was certainly a dramatic one while Annie Harden is running for her life and end up being in Dane Carmichael arms. With typical traditional style Dane save her life and then unlike a gentleman (that he really is) stick to her. Having completely different perspectives, where they share nothing in common, they serve as an example of "opposite attraction". Annie self sufficient, dominating and independent personality was attractive unless she lure it by her weakness toward lust (personal opinion). Well with a loose plot, Beverly Barton had tried her best to make the situation genuine, interesting and somehow acceptable. but Geez! it seem more like she's trying to ensure their love-making (and what if they're attacked during their love-making, oh never mind!). I thought it as a murder mystery but it turn out to be a melodrama, or may be it was always a romance genre, for which I've been mistaken to be murder mystery. As for the culprit, (for which I already who'd it be) again through an archetypal way turn out (coincidentally) to be Dane's relative. One last thing I couldn't understand, why all of the sudden Dane realized his perfect, feminine, delicate and lovely wife to be imperfect. Is it because her father turn out to be guilty? However I don't think I'll ever read this writer again, neither will she need me as her reader. Otherwise I appreciate her effort for writing such a tedious, Ooops! adventurous story. |
