To say that Hannah has bad taste in men would be an understatement. Unfortunately, that never changes as the book progresses. We find out that when Hanna first arrives in London she unknowingly dates a married man, but he breaks up with her when she won't sleep with him. Then she decides to date Eden who at first glance is a safe, weak man and they become engaged. She breaks up with him just before their wedding because some of his problems come to light. Then she is stuck fending off the advances of her boss's son Gerald. She goes out with him to be polite. Hannah decides she needs a break from men in general and plans a 3 week vacation. She never makes it to that vacation because Eden's foster brother Donald/Waldo kidnaps her. They get caught in a blizzard and are forced to stay in a cabin. He constantly blames Hannah for his brother's death from a drunk driving accident just after she broke up with Eden, and Waldo calls her all sorts of names throughout the entire book. Waldo lusts after Hannah but he is disgusted with himself for feeling that way because of what he believes her character to be. Of course, Hannah is a glutton for punishment and falls in love with Waldo anyway in a most unhealthy, codependent way. She spends most of the book trying to figure out how best to defend her character to this guy and mentally beating herself up. It is only at the very, very end when Waldo suddenly has a character change from Mr. Hyde and becomes all nice and lovey dovey. They lived happily ever after?
