Review # 2 was written on 2011-10-15 00:00:00 Gary Mcnamara Frankly, I dislike endings where the H/h are working at cross-purposes while wanting the same thing. Its needlessly frustrating. Like, couldnt they have talked about their long-term intentions first before getting all defensive about their mutual relationship and assuming the worst possible scenarios? In this instance, the girl didnt want to tie him up, thinking he wanted to join politics in DC. So she would settle for a month-long affair with him. On the other hand, he didnt want to offer her marriage when he moves to DC, thinking that her parents bad marriage soured her on the idea. But he didnt want an affair with her either. This is my version of Pot, meet kettle. You know you both WANT a good scrubbing-and-washing so, for heavens sake, just get on with the rinse cycle together. And another thing I disliked about this bookthe political groupies and hangers-on. I feel like Daniel reading the writing on the wall mene, mene, tekel u-Pharsin. Years later, the hero, being attractive and people-savvy guy -- will become a successful politician ala Bill Clinton and the wife with whom he had found so attractive in this brief winter interlude has become a Hillary. HEA not likely in my cynical eyes. |
