Review # 1 was written on 2013-04-11 00:00:00 Darlene Cooper Sarah sits playing on her own while her father makes supper. The story shifts seamlessly between reality and make believe as she builds a palace (house) of cards. A king and queen urge the builders to work faster, to complete the work before midnight so they can obtain their promised immortality. A small elephant and a prince find companionship and shelter from the blazing desert sun in an inner courtyard with a fountain. The illustrations are stylised and slightly abstract, with a dark eeriness to them. I liked the emphasis on imagination and make believe. I also appreciated a father being the one making supper. The synopsis at the back says it's for children of 5 and over. |
Review # 2 was written on 2020-03-25 00:00:00 Curtis McClain My Mother bought me this book when i was leaving reception class to go into Year 1 (BLESS) It's about a little boy who is leaving his Reception teacher and is scared about it. It really is such a lovely story and it really eased my 5 year old fears! Gorgeous illustrations too, and I still have it somewhere! |
