Shakespeare, Dickens, Henry James, Joseph Conrad and James Joyce are discussed in terms mostly of father-daughter incest and/or incestuousness, competition between father and suitor, between siblings; the dramas that are played out. I have to say that I'd never given it much thought! I shouldn't even be admitting this because now I think, "What was I thinking?" I mean, Oedipus, yes, him I like. Or yes, I've always been able to see my own obivious oedipal struggles everywhere I look,, and in a broad sense, this stuff is all oedipus. Oedipussy? Oh well, this to me is an interesting book. I'm sure it's only the kindle version that is so full of typos, something we I suppose have to learn to live with. I now need to go back to James....I did run to a summary of The Tempest, for memory jog.

disclaimer: i'm fascinated by colonial america. i would generally assume that if you're looking this book up in the first place, you'd also be interested in the subject. still, if you're not into the details of life during colonial america, you won't like this. this has a lot of great detail. a great source of information from a time that was as far removed from the colonial period.
