Informative and useful with my dissertation research. Smith is erudite and charts the progression of socialist propaganda from Morris to Lindsay. However, it does appear dated now in its writing style with the archaic use of 'Mrs' and 'Ms' to refer to female novelists. Also the criticism occasionally drifts into relating the novels' plots rather than their explicit or implicit political ideologies. Overall, I would recommend it to those interested in this field as Smith has interesting things to say about Tressell and socialist fiction in general.
