The In World History series is a unique combination of history and biography which this book explores the British Empire during the reign of Queen Victoria, who become a symbol of the vast empire. During Queen Victoria's sixty-three year reign over England, the nation flourished. The British Empire expanded, adding territories in places such as India and areas of Africa. While England's imperialism helped improve the economy by providing valuable imports and exports, it also exploited the people, culture, and land of these territories. Informative - not so griping, but certainly plainly explained the situations during Victoria's reign and the reasons behind imperialism and the resulting consequences and the long term effects. Less about Queen Victoria than I would have liked, but got some good glimpses into her reign and influence.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It correlates to the new series Victoria on PBS that I am watching.
