Review # 2 was written on 2012-07-06 00:00:00 David Dobson Erectile Sex Organs. The first third of the novel is overflowing with penises. It is a virtual forest of such. Tumescent and exploding such appendages occupy all action. There is an ongoing lampoon of Opus Dei (I thought of writing harpoon, but that would just encourage such). Goytisolo recovers and delivers a splendid chronicle of Spain through the Inquisition, the Civil War and on to an EU reality while focusing on censorship, orthodoxy and the absence of Church compassion for the scourge of AIDS. Cock-Eyed Comedy certainly as masterful moments of satire and exposition. It simply doesn't match up well with Goytisolo's better works.
