Review # 1 was written on 2016-11-20 00:00:00 Kevin Smith I did not get much out of this honestly. The writing is not bad at all. But the problem with books like this is that there can't help but be alot of generalizations. And this one is quite short so it isn't a book you can expect to change your life although you might indeed glean some in formation from it. I did enjoy reading though. I like the lists of the different types of toxic friends. If you take it as a shirt mildly fun read with some interesting points to be made then it's really good but it did not change my life. Can be read in one sitting. And the writing is smart and interesting. 3.5 stars.

Review # 2 was written on 2010-10-20 00:00:00 Daniel W George I confess I didn't read every word of this, but I selectively read most of it--- it wasn't as helpful as other books I've seen on this and related topics. Much more descriptive than prescriptive, which would be helpful if I weren't familiar with descriptive literature on this topic. I felt that there was an implied promise of prescriptive advice in the word "antidote" in the title, and I didn't see it in the book. Which is a shame, because the many women I know caught in toxic friendships could really use some advice on better boundaries, when to cut and run, when to stay and fight. The reason this is complicated for women is that sometimes we need to be able to manage relationships with difficult people for social, professional, and personal reasons, and to just tell you what role you play in these relationships and not how to set and enforce boundaries, how to manage the politics of these situations, is not helpful. Walking away isn't always a reasonable solution.
