Review # 2 was written on 2014-12-18 00:00:00 Stacey Doucet This is quite a good collection of essays of Cromwell, and it covers the full width of him - minus, I suppose, the Protectorate Parliaments and that saga - but this is good. Clearly explained throughout and exactly what I expect from essays. When you enter this collection, don't expect to be educated on what Cromwell did exactly or what happened here or there - background knowledge is required. One review on here said that this was written by people with doctorates for people with doctorates - completely absurd. If you have background knowledge, you will be fine. These are essays. They are analytical and evaluative. They are not narrative. Well edited by a great authority on Cromwell, John Morrill. Clear respect and admiration for one of our greatest men. |
