Review # 1 was written on 2016-10-03 00:00:00 Chantale Boisvert-dagenais This was a challenging book. Louis Filler is challenging to read. The first half of the book is about the history of slavery ad the debate following Lincoln's war. Then there 32 readings that are supposed to relate specifically to Part 1 but which ones and how isn't made the least bit clear. Furthermore the format of the readings makes it impossible to know what the point of a particular reading is supposed to be. Filler had done a good job of making a confusing mess of this topic. Additionally it is written from the Northern position and many of the points he makes about the North and the South, but particularly for the the latter his points are just plain false. |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-06-01 00:00:00 Stephan Graham Tough to read, nonetheless its one of those books that are essential for a full political education. |
