Review # 1 was written on 2016-12-19 00:00:00 Edward Beadle For Wells completists only of which I am all but one. Without that in mind, I'd probably knock down my rating a notch. The Picshuas of H. G. Wells is sort of a combo bio (aiming mainly at Wells' love / sex life ... I was intrigued that he even resorted to the "Hoories") and art critique. The critiquing ends after the first portion of the book and I was glad for that. None of these efforts should be confused with museum pieces. At best, his doodlings might be considered a form of Primitive Art. All in all, I actually got more out of Wells adolescent work, The Desert Daisy. Having said that, some of the picshuas that I appreciated the most involved his scientific romances: "To Eudena, Tales of Space and Time" caricatures cavemen while"Le Jardin de Madam Moreau" & "The First Real Lady in the Moon ... " continue with the burlesque theme.

Review # 2 was written on 2018-01-09 00:00:00 Ahmad Ali Margaret Oliphant, one of the most prolific writers of the Victorian era (she wrote, if I am correct, over 90 novels), approaches the writing of her autobiography in an almost modern, stream-of-consciousness way. Interspersed between more typical chronological narration are diary-like entries in which she lets her emotions shine through. The result is a unique, though perhaps difficult to swallow, look into the life of a woman whose dreams of relaxation and success were forever thwarted by money troubles, useless dependents, and tragic deaths.
