Review # 1 was written on 2015-03-08 00:00:00 Melissa Gorby The Murder Reference, edited by Maureen Harrison and Steve Gilbert, is exactly as advertised: the book contains facts on murder. Having been published in 1996, it is obviously not up to date in relation to yearly statistics but is still an interesting read providing information concerning variation in laws and definitions across individual States. The book also chronicles popular headlines, albeit briefly. My edition is about 310 pages in length - about 60 pages are dedicated to a bibliography for readers to implement in search of related materials. The book is divided into four parts: 1) America's Murder Laws (Murder Degrees, Manslaughter, Assisted Suicide, et cetera) 2) Murder Statistics (Mostly from the early 1990's but some portions extend all the way into the 1900's.) 3) The Chronology of Headline Murders (Short paragraphs summarizing around 150 murders spanning across the century.) 4) Murder Ink (Bibliography) |
