Review # 1 was written on 2018-06-25 00:00:00 Carlos Pacas The title is thrilling. And Anderson is approaching it as a scientific question. Great.. He warms up with an academic survey on models to represent brains and intelligent behavior. Warning: this may put your mind to sleep. Deep sleep. But you will jump from the chair before the end of this book. Because at chapter 5 he suggests that high school Algebra make us humans. Damn. It differentiates us from other primates and is easier for scientists to model and to quantify performance (if compared to language). Meaning that math skills were not anticipated by evolution therefore a result of our brain's dynamic pattern matching + memory. But the thrilling question is still open. Be patient and do some math. |
Review # 2 was written on 2019-10-21 00:00:00 Bob Boberson My ratings of books on Goodreads are solely a crude ranking of their utility to me, and not an evaluation of literary merit, entertainment value, social importance, humor, insightfulness, scientific accuracy, creative vigor, suspensefulness of plot, depth of characters, vitality of theme, excitement of climax, satisfaction of ending, or any other combination of dimensions of value which we are expected to boil down through some fabulous alchemy into a single digit. |
