4 + Stars ✨ This is a fine historical set of poems highlighting stories of brave women (or girls, before coming of age) in history. Some are well known historical figures and others average children with remarkable strengths. This helps fill in the gaps in traditional US patriarchal white history that has been the standard of the US basic educational system for most of it's history, herein profiling strong females both white and women of color both personally and professionally in one page poems with an illustration. What makes this exceptional is the mini biographies of each individual (particularly those less known figures) that can be found in the back before a brief bibliography. This is a great jumping off point for more research for the grade school child. The illustrations are realistic, the poetry not bad & the concept excellent (with a caution to children not to try flying off the roof like in the 1st poem). 🧐

This book is about girls who made a difference in their community. This is a great book that is composed into poems, which helps to show students a deeper meaning of the book.
