Review # 1 was written on 2018-10-27 00:00:00 William Thomas Sherman New Yorker Adam has trouble adjusting to his new English stepsister. His all-too-normal jealousy almost overwhelms the story and, if it weren't for the setting, I would give this two stars. The story is set in the exact same Upper East Side neighborhood as HARRIET THE SPY and I enjoyed seeing how things had changed in ten years. (Harriet would never have been mugged in Carl Schurz Park.) The book was probably written in 1977 and I wonder what the author later thought of this quote from one of her characters: "The Shah is forever....They never run out of Shahs in Iran." |
