The premise of this short guide is that with the modern notions of sexual freedom many couples jump directly in the sack without getting to know each other or developing a romantic and loving relationship. They are basically strangers who have sex and the relationship soon suffers because there is no common ground to hold the couple together other than a fleeting cursory sexual excitement. Boredom then leads the couple to finding new partners. Stanway tries to encourage couples to use the old notions of romance and courting to change basically an empty short term sexual relationship into a long term committed relationship. The book emphasizes using conversation, dating, common interests, non-sexual touching, massage, erotic massage, and expanding sexual repertoires to encourage a lasting and loving relationship. Every chapter could be a book in itself. As such, the "how to" sexual information is rather basic but the value of this book is its breadth rather than depth and the fact that it tries to encourage love rather than simple titillation. The book is illustrated with explicit albeit tasteful line drawings. Despite its brevity and lack of detail, I believe the book quite effectively provides a broad introduction to creating a loving relationship out of a simple sexual one. The depth of the sexual information is fairly basic and I think somewhat limited for more experienced couples, but the idea that a couple can develop a loving relationship is applicable across the board. One criticism, the Kindle edition is poorly formatted. There are odd gaps in the sentences, words, and even in many of the letters. There are several instances of words being printed on top of one another, and several sentences that the order of the words were arranged incorrectly. Many of the illustrations are across two pages in the paper version and suffer from being broken in half in the Kindle version. The captions on the illustrations are not legible on a Kindle. They were legible on Kindle for Mac. The formatting problem is not included in my rating.
