I really liked this book, simple storyline with amazing character relationships. This was a book I got from a friend in 4th grade because she didn't want it and I could never get myself to pick it up and read it but i'm forever thankful to her for giving it to me. The main character, Richard is adorable. He's not your normal character, he's slightly wounded because of Dyslexia. He hears the words being spoken around him but doesn't comprehend some of them. He doesn't understand phrases like "carry me out feet first" or "living in a sardine can". But his love for his family, shows more than his Dyslexia. I think what I loved most about this book was that him, his sister and his cousins all gather together to try and keep their grandpa in his home. He tries to keep an ear out for conversations about them getting rid of him without his Dyslexia getting the best of him. All that haunts him is what his grandpa always told them, "I've lived in this house for fifty years". He loves his cousin Alexandra because she tries to keep him in the loop by explaining things in Laymen's terms and not getting fussy with him. He didn't have a close relationship with his sister but after a certain incident with grandpa and learning about it she starts warming up to her brother. This is by far the cutest book i've ever read.

I found this in the school library, donated by one of the school counselors. I thought it an odd choice for K-5. It's about a boy with a learning disability and how he gets along one sumer with his extended family. Nothing out of place there, but there's no resolution to the story but to "keep stompin' till the music stops". A little confusing for that age group, I felt.
