PUBLISHER'S STATEMENT
BIG BROTHER is watching you.
By the time you read this, Canada will have probably had a general election and
either Pierre Trudeau and his merryband of Liberals have been re-elected or Joe
Clark and his amazing army of Conservatives are in the country's driving seat.
Regardless of who wins ... we as far as Canada is concerned ... with either party
nobody wins ... we are still going to be faced with a lot of problems.
One of the main issues which we regard as closest to our house, is the right for
you to make your own decision as to whether you want to read this or other magazines
of this nature; what movie you want to see ... in essence, to be your own person
or master of your own destiny.
When Pierre Trudeau was Justice Minister, he gained public prominence with the
statement "that the government had no business in the bedrooms of the nation."
Once elected Prime Minister, he then promised Canada a "Just Society".
Since that time the reverse has been true and if anything Canada has moved more
towards being a police state that any other country of the Western World.
For instance, the new obscenity laws that are being proposed are now elastic enough
to make a book shop owner selling Grimm's Fairy Tales liable to a heavy fine or
time in jail.
The confiscation of subscription copies of magazines does not, in our books, denote
a "Just Society" and the crime of it all is that we, as Canadians passively
accept the deprivation of our rights.
It is time for the silent majority to let the government know that we will not
take any more abuse of our civil liberties.
Our personal freedom is slowly bein chipped away with every new law that is being
proposed or passed and unless some- thing is done, then 1984 will be instituted
in 1979.
In case you are unaware of the 1984 phrase, it is the title of a book written
by George Orwell sometime ago, who predicted that by 1984, we would be living
in a society whereby our every need would be decided upon by Big Brother.
And that good readers, is what the govern- ment has in store for you unless you
do something about it. Maybe we do sound repetitious and we do have a lot to lose
... but so do you! The danger signs have been flashing an ugly red for sometime
now but before the situation erupts, we should show the government that we are
concerned. Enough flak from the electorate may just be the incentive for the tide
to turn and allow us as individuals to live our lives as we see fit.
REMEMBER, 1984 ISN'T THAT FAR AWAY!
