Dear Reader,
Welcome to this unique experiment in erotic journalism. We of the FROLIC staff believe that this issue represents the finest editorial and pictorial product we have ever produced—and perhaps the finest single men's magazine ever put together.
To prepare this mini-bible of graphic and scripted erotic art, we spent months ransacking our private files, spent long hours in deliberation with editors, authors, and photographers, went through hell-and-high-water to secure reprint rights to carnal classics, and suffered through a significant amount of torture getting the finest art designers to come up with the most beautiful of lay-outs in which to present this classic collection.
In short, this magazine represents a compendium of the finest material to appear in our field over the past twenty years.
To honor those who have contributed not only to our issue, but to the ritual of Eros itself, we have dispersed awards in six separate categories:

FROLIC MASTERPIECE AWARD: For premier examples of the work of the most professional and talented lensmen in the business.
FROLIC CRAFTSMAN AWARD: Nude designs constructed to elicit compositional drama, eroticism, and graphic beauty.
FROLIC HUMOR AWARD: Eroto-social pictorial satire so devastating that most shots have been banned from every other publication!
FROLIC HISTORICAL AWARD: Flesh pioneers of the past—from Candy Barr to Lorna Maitland and Carol Doda. A tribute to the ground-breakers and trail-blazers of our field.
FROLIC GRAPHICS AWARD: Aesthetic use of the undraped body, photographic special effects, and surrealist sensuality as portrayed by the Picassos of porn.
FROLIC MODELS AWARD: The built chicks and the beauties, the cream of the pulchritudinous crop, guaranteed to whet your whistle for the real thing.
And finally:
FROLIC TROPHY FICTION: A trio of the most thought-provoking, lust-arousing stories you'll read this eon: PRO BALL, "Body and Soul" in the carnal arena with John Garfield as a Superstud Heavyweight. . . . LIPS, a fanciful Dadaistic delineation of the Love People, with gentleness in their hearts and come on their chins. . . . THE HORNY GHOST, supra-fantasia of the world of R&R, greasers, Elvis, and the duck's-ass culture.

We're not denying it was hard work, and there were plenty of times we wanted to scrap the whole project. But an enormous amount of really classic material has appeared in FROLIC thru the years and we wanted to reward The Faithful with a retrospective worthy of their interest. It's always been our policy to give You the best. You deserve it. And here it is!
