Playboy's Lingerie # 7, May/June 1989

Wit and woman-about-town Dorothy Parker observed in 1920 that "brevity is the soul of lingerie." Correct. And, in 1989, sheerness is its substance. Everywhere we turn these days, we're treated to the lovely spectacle of intimate wear. Television teases with commercials for brassieres and hosiery; major magazines not only feature provocative advertisements, they also publish articles on the phenomenon of sensuous intimate apparel; and stores galore are successfully selling a new twist on an Old theme: Victorian-style undergarments, complete with frills and furbelows, made with modern gossamer fabrics. They're found right alongside the flash of brilliantly colored satin and sequin-encrusted lace garments. It's an exciting time for lingerie. Cover girl Teri Weigel knows it and shows it.
