PUBLISHER'S PAGE
What's new at Gallery?
Anyone who asks that question had better be ready for a long answer. New ideas
are always popping up here, and the ones we think you'd enjoy ultimately find
their way into our pages. For example:
—The all-time favorite new idea, of course, was Gallery's original "Girl
Next Door" Amateur Erotic Photography Contest. It has become the most popular
feature of any magazine in America because it demonstrates once and for all that
beauty and desirability can be found not only in photographs of professional models,
but in every man's own backyard and bedroom, too. Men today like honesty, and
that is the key ingredient of Gallery's "Girl Next Door." I hope you
will use the pull-out voting card in this issue to help your favorite contestant
win our top prize.
We will also be bringing you closer to "Girls Next Door," with special
features that take you even more intimately into their homes and daily experiences.
Last month's visit with a group of former winners, in which they described how
the contest has affected their lives, was just the first example of this new idea.
—Beginning next month, we will be matching our usual feast for the eyes
with an intriguing treat for your mind. One of the most popular writers of our
time, Isaac Asimov, has decided to challenge Gallery's readers with a diabolically
clever series of mini-mysteries. Each has a unique twist at the end, and you are
asked to guess the solution based on previously given clues. We call the series
"The Asimov Challenge." If you think you're sleuth enough to match wits
with the best, we invite you to join us next month.
—In the past two months, we introduced a new contest section designed to
give readers additional opportunities to join in the fun. Entries have already
begun to pour in for both "How Many Does It Take?" and "The Other
Woman." The first calls for your creative sense of humor; the second lets
you test whether our millions of other readers are good judges of character ...
and how well they know you. Turn to page 92 of this issue for our new contest
section.
—Readers' letters make it clear that "People, Places and Things"
has become a favorite feature. To help you enjoy it even more, we're going to
put it in full color beginning next month. The nature of that column--packed as
it is with lively photos and strange goings-on—makes it ideal for color,
so we've decided to go all the way.
—With all the entertainment value we try to inject into our new ideas, we
never forget our commitment to bringing you the straight facts about more serious
happenings that affect your life. At a time when it's difficult to believe some
of the things you read in newspapers and see on television (statements from Three
Mile Island nuclear officials, for example), it's important to have at least one
reliable source you can count on. Beginning in our October issue, we'll be revealing
new information about environmental dangers that are being hushed up at the highest
levels of world government. It may not be "fun" to read, but we feel
we owe this service to you.
Not all good ideas come from the Gallery staff. Some are recommended by readers
who like the magazine so much that they want to participate in making it the best
publication it can be. If you have an idea or two you would like to share with
us, let me know. Thanks.
