But you still couldn't help notice the look in sweet Mary Lou's eyes when she'd catch sight of that gleaming red hot rod tearing by you on the main strip. A lot of guys could have designed themselves to being dirt on the road, but not you. You spent day and night working over the old family hand-me-down—overhauling the engine, modifying the chassis, giving it a new paint job. Then you got out there and blew the other guy away, winning Mary Lou's undying love—and everything else she had to give.
That's when you probably learned two of your biggest lessons in life: (1) that you have the skill and guts to get whatever you want out of life and (2) women love fast cars. The sensation of flying down a secluded highway, her hair blowing wildly every which way, with you in control in the driver's seat, is enough to set any woman's heart pacing faster than the engine. The phenomenon is further explained in "Fast-Lane Lovers" (page 83).
