EDITORIAL NOTE
I'm back, temporarily. This time around, it's Debbie Rochon who's at Rick and Monica's, conducting a scavenger hunt for yours truly. I slipped out through the cellar door and raced to the office. It seems the Femme Fatales editrix is on the warpath because I approved this issue's REVENGE OF THE CALENDAR GIRLS coverage. In fact, CALENDAR GIRLS launches the initial installment of writer Gary Garfinkel's "candid camera" pictorials titled "Gary's Exposed Film." Gary's providing interviews and photos of his subjects.
At any rate, Ms. Rochon's protest is CALENDAR GIRL's "defamation of women...starlets stripping down to 'compete' for roles [see page 14]." While Rochon admits that she hasn't seen the film, she claims, "It's likely the producers could have saved themselves money by shooting the auditions." I thought we shouldn't prejudge the movie, unwittingly kindling the wrath of Rochon.
Rick and Monica just called; Rochon left their home approximately 20 minutes ago. I haven't much time (think I hear footsteps)...
There's a photo of a woman on Rochon's desk. Never paid much attention to it until now, but upon closer observation I can see it's signed by Sherri Lansing. I remember Lansing from a John Wayne movie titled RIO LOBO, playing a victim who is tormented and raped. Studio photos of Lansing in a torn dress, pressing her arms across her bare chest, sent a mixed message: Yeh, she was molested, but what a babe! Lansing resigned from the starlet pool, and later called the shots at a major studio, her starlet past exiled to trivia competitions. Rochon's picture depicts Lansing as studio boss. I'm beginning to understand.
Great news! Vivian Schilling has vowed to write for FF after completing her second novel. And we'd like an article from Scarlet Street publisher, Jessie "Pip Pip' Lilley. In fact, more female writers will— My God, a key is rattling in the office lock. It's Rochon—and she has a gun!
