"It's awful. It's embarrassing," moans a top Hollywood director discussing decades of Oscar mire. "We try and we try to be perfect like the Tonys, but we're too shallow. You know it and I know it. It's our curse." We prefer to view it as spellbinding...
Many Oscar winners have toasted their success with a "fifth" of something...but nothing compares to the five volumes of "The Anatomy Awards" with which we've quenched your thirst for the most statue-esque strips of film. The trophies we've bagged above bring the total of winners and nominees we've uncovered to an even two hundred—a lifetime achievement worthy of award considering that, during last year's so-called "Year of the Woman," Premiere proclaimed: "The reality is that out of 2,030 Oscars awarded, only 273 have been won by women" (with many multiple victors}.
"Surprise has been part of the Academy Awards since the prizes were first handed out in 1929," a recent retrospective began, "and now millions of viewers all over the world tune in to the ceremony lit was again #1 in the Nielsen's in '94}—knowing the only thing they can expect is the unexpected." That's why we figure you're here, since as Academy attendee Andrew Dice Clay noted in 1994: "You know the Hollywood bullshit. Everybody applauds and everybody's happy. And everybody's going, 'Why isn't it me?" I have nudes for you...it is!
Yet, concludes Entertainment Weekly, "In the most cynical of industries, the Academy Award is one thing that still inspires reverence."
