THE SLEUTHSAYER
"The preponderance of teenage moviegoers has incited the mass production of mind-numbing films featuring neopubescent starlets," Los Angeles magazine recently complained, "a trend that began with Brooke Shields fp. 52} and hit its stride with Molly Ringwald (Sleuth, V4N4}. Eligibility," L.A. chided, 'requires a youthful appearance and the ability to communicate in sentence fragments." Uh, like, gee, as if we didn't know...
Actually this teenward trend is nothing new: "The cinema is a natural idiom for illustrating the magic of the Lolita myth," a leading sociologist observes. "From its inception, film has been rich in nymphets who eluded or gave in to Humbert Humberts of all shapes and sizes." And indeed, this sixth ode to "Ingenudes" comes in all shapes and sizes: from the voluptuous womanliness of Elizabeth Hurley to the precocious pulchritude of Drew Barrymore to the gamine androgyny of "Calvin Klein" cutie Kate Moss. And, unlike the "Lolita Syndrome" these fresh faces are indeed "new": 37 of the 42 (nearly 90 percent!! have never been uncovered before in Sleuth...or any other men's magazine! And the five we've reprised are seen in a whole nude light—an undressed update of "Further Developments," as it were.
Finally emerging from the repressive 1980's, the advent of unrated videos seems to have stimulated the emergence of more young lovelies than ever before! As Video Software Magazine recently remarked: "Sex is everywhere in the home video market these days. The past two years have seen a proliferation of steamy movies...making erotic thrillers one of the most popular genres in video stores today." Added one video executive: "These films are definitely here to stay"
And, despite our worstwhile "competitor's" blatant attempts to convince its gullible readers otherwise !see facing Letters column!, so is Sleuth...
