Symmetries of Islamic Geometrical Patterns
Demanding Respect is a social history of the comic book industry from its pulp beginnings in the 1930s to the pre-MCU dominance of the 21st century. In many ways, the book is a story of comics continuing (and ongoing) struggle of the artform to capture a mass market and gain legitimacy from cultural gatekeepers.
Lopes does a good job of framing the evolution of the relationship between creators, fans, publishers, and retailers, as well as the wider impact of economics, politics, and social pressure. If there is one failure in the story, it's that it ends too soon. A history of comics that ends before the emergence of digital comics, the dominance of comics in multimedia, and the growth of viable independent publishers needs a new edition to make the story complete.
