Overall, a disappointing book. The critique of "place" in popular music studies is insightful, as is Krims' critique of the place (no pun intended) of Adorno in current "cultural" musicology. But while Krims gets a few very good ideas into this book, I believe the book as a whole is loose and only half-digested.
