Armed Struggle and Democracy: The Case of South Africa, Discussion Paper 20, Vol. 20

This a story about ordinary people being oppressed by both sides - enemy rebel fighters and government troops - as they and their supposed military protectors, make a short in distance but very time consuming train journey during the brutal Mozambique Civil War. I found it captivating although the very matter of fact, low key narrative style takes a bit of getting used to. Well worth a read.
