Somerled: Hammer of the Norse
Interesting study of the Gaelic-Viking warrior who dominated the western isles of Scotland in the 12th century and was the ancestor of many famous clans such as the MacDonalds, MacDougals, and the MacAlister. I myself descend from this last clan. Somerled though, is the classic case of someone who got too big for his britches. He was eventually killed after warring against the Scots king and burning Glasgow.
