Abducting Diana Book

A fantastic play that is primarily a satire on the media world of today along with some more satirical observations on clergy, aristocracy, and political scandals.

A media baroness is kidnapped and when the kidnappers seem to be the masters of the situation initially, soon the situation changes - the kidnapped becomes the master and the kidnappers follow the instructions of the kidnapped lady.

That does not say much about the play. It is divided into two acts and the dialogues and the events are funny and sharp. I found myself laughing very loud almost for ever dialogue as I was reading the second act. I only regret that I could not watch it being performed.

There are some interesting characters:
For instance:
1. A kidnapper who when finding himself helpless under the torture inflicted by the media baroness turns into a poet mouthing the phrases of Goethe and Shakespeare.
2. A priest who exorcises a 'possessed refrigerator'.
3. A mother when answering a frantic call from her daughter (who is in abduction) is very particular about details of the scene and the kidnapper ("whether he is handsome") rather than rushing to help.

1. "I am a business woman, an executive, an owner. I do not write the stories nor do the snooping. Whilst on the subject, we in the media don't pass judgment, we merely reflect the attitudes of ordinary people. We don't make the news we just report, we don't have any power we just respond to the whims of society....The more boring people's lives, the more they enjoy building up the lives of others...."

2. "We live in a democracy which means power lies in the hands of...? The power rests with those able to inform and influence the nodding majority."
