Editor Carol A. Wiley has compiled interviews with 23 Women Martial Artists. In different stages of their lives, in different stages of their training, how each woman uses their particular and specialized martial practice is a fascinating read.

As martial artists what are the differences between women and men? What are different ways to explore ones conflicts both physical and mental? What are the barriers to overcome to be effective in martial arts and in daily life at large. These questions, issues and many, many more are explored in this fascinating work.

A more cohesive or centralized theme between the various stories might have been a better, far stronger presentation. With so many perspectives, and very different issues which each interview offers gives one mental whiplash at times trying to connect their pieces, if possible. A puzzle whose different, assorted pieces do not seem to easily fit together necessarily. The book seemed a tad disjointed in spots given the excess diversity of perspectives.

The "vehicle" is women as martial artists but where one takes that vehicle and how it is used is very much up to the specific driver. This book will show you many different routes which women have taken to help themselves with a very powerful tool, martial arts training.
