I was going to give this incredible novel only 4 stars because the author's grammar was horrible! There were SO many mistakes, but the story itself was perfect in every other way, so I will blame author McFadden's editor, and give her a pass. I loved the book, about a marriage of long standing, which has become stale, to the point where the wife feels invisible to her husband and children, so she abruptly decides to leave. She gets in her car in NJ and doesn't stop driving until she is on Pawley's Island in SC. She builds a life there, living in a seaside cottage with an older woman who needs care taking. She meets a man, and thinks her new life will keep her content forever. Meanwhile, her husband, who does love her, but who has been caught in the difficult rat race of a fast tracked career, wants to bring her home. Nothing seems to work, and he has to resign himself to the fact that he has lost her. He changes along the way. They both do, as do the other well thought out characters in the novel. I truly hated to see this one end, despite my constant cringing over the abhorrent grammar!
