Thomas Jefferson is a well educated, hard working young man with a bright future. Raised by his grandparents, he always had afternoon and weekend jobs during high school and thereafter, finally obtaining a college degree which led to a responsible position with a T.V. station. Unfortunately it also led the young Thomas, who wanted to be accepted as one of the "in" crowd, to experiment with illegal drugs. A co-worker, who Thomas believes is a true friend, is arrested for possession of cocaine. The friendship quickly fades when his so-called friend is offered a way out of his own troubles if he can make another case for the Sheriff. He readily betrays Thomas, who is soon arrested for trafficking in cocaine, an indelible mark on his otherwise bright future. Parker Devereaux, Thomas's attorney knows he was entrapped and is morally as well as legally innocent. Nevertheless, Devereaux fails in his struggle against the ambiguities of a monolithic and unsympathetic legal system. This story majestically builds to its surprising but tragic conclusion.
