While many people read novels for the pleasure of following a good story, works of literature also offer riches in their use of language, detail, form and context. Using excerpts from Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, Dr. McCloskey demonstrates how these elements cooperate with plot, characterization, and theme to express a novel's many lawyers of meaning.
For 14 years Susan McCloskey was a Professor of English Literature at Vassar College. She has published articles on Shakespeare and other Elizabethan dramatists. Currently, she is president of McCloskey Writing Consultants, offering seminars, writing instruction, and editorial advice to companies and law firms.
