Journey Through Hallowed Ground: Birthplace of the American Ideal Book

As someone who lives within five minutes of Rt. 15 in Southern VA, I was excited to find a book about Rt. 15 and its environs north of my home. National Geographic, too, would guarantee that it would be good, I thought. Well, it is a good book, but not a great book. The photography, and there is as much of it as there is copy, is excellent. The copy, however, needs better editing. One or two errors may be overlooked occasionally, but not the lack of editing attention in this book. In the final chapter, the book is a thinly veiled propaganda tool for land conservation. Since I support land conservation, that doesn't bother me too much, but the book seemed to be a history/travel book when I purchased it. The area described, from Charlottesville, VA to Gettysburg, PA, is beautiful and historic. I wish that the writers had included Rt. 15 in Southern VA, where the Indian heritage, Revolutionary and Civil War history abound and are just as important.
