After being kidnapped by a toad, a beautiful girl no bigger than a thumb has many adventures and makes many animal friends before meeting the perfect mate just her size.
This is a Spanish version of the Hans Christian Andersen tale, Thumbelina. A childless woman asks a fairy to bring her a baby. She is told to plant a flower seed in a pot. Up sprouts a tulip and inside the petals she finds a teeny tiny girl. She was so small; she could sleep in a walnut shell and use a flower petal for a cover. All went well for the little girl, until one day a matchmaking toad took her away to meet her husbandanother toad. Thus begins a series of ill-fated matches leading Pulgarcita underground where she is supposed to wed an ugly mole. But in the tunnel she meets a wounded bird. She cares for him and makes him well again. In return for her kindness toward him, the bird carries her away to meet her "prince," another tiny person just like herself. Young readers will be attracted to the childlike artwork splashed with color. This is a Green Level book of the "Read-it! Readers" series.
