Squandering of America: How the Failure of Our Politics Undermines Our Prosperity
The author is very knowledgable about the American economy, globalization and it's effects, regulation of financial institutions and it's effects, and the effects of the financial sphere of influence on American politics. I learned alot about the complexities of our financial institutions and how lack of regulation by our government results in the growing income disparities in this country and tax payer bail-outs when the financial arena stumbles. This book was published in 2007 and warns of the upcoming financial crash which has now come to fruition in 2008. Kuttner is obviously a liberal, but places the blame for financial deregulation on both political parties. He admires the regulated market place in Europe. It is not always easy to read, especially when he gets technical or in the first chapter, which tends to be preachy, but overall, an excellent book to help explain why the middle class is feeling more and more under stress.
