Son of Mashpee elegantly combines a history of the Wampanoags with an autobiography of Chief Flying Eagle, Earl Mills Sr. The book addresses a variety of topics, from the political and cultural influence of Wampanoags in Southeastern Massachusetts, to the Wampanoags' well-publicized and unsuccessful 1976 lawsuit to reclaim their land. Son of Mashpee consists of three parts: "Roots," "Childhood Vignettes" and "Legacy." All are richly illustrated with maps, drawings and photographs, some even dating back to the 1800s.
