Bright but learning disabled, Kinneret is frustrated by her inability to understand what is expected of her at school and embarrassed by her failures in front of her teachers and classmates. Her well-meaning parents don't always know the best way to help, and Kinneret dreads going to school. At first her assignment to the school resource room for special help seems like another humiliation-drawing attention to the difference between her and her classmates. But her caring and determined resource teacher, Miriam Klein, eventually gains Kinneret's trust and helps the other teachers to recognize Kinneret's special needs. Most of the story is told from Kinneret's point of view, and the insight into how it feels to be learning disabled is poignant and affecting.
