The Cabin on Sawmill Creek: A Western Walden
This was like no other book I have ever read. I was at the library and saw it on the shelf, thought the picture looked interesting and decided check it out. The beginning was interesting about a "couple" that decides that the hectic busy every day life wasn't for them and moved to Idaho, ended up buying some acreage up a canyon near Challis, ID and building a home and life there. It was interesting to read how they built there log cabin by themselves with hand made cranes and only 2 people. Their dedication to learn how to do just about anything without a lot of outside help is inspiring. Other choices they made drove me crazy. For example the woman left her 2 kids behind with their father so she could go off and live her dreams, she never once mentions them again in the book so one can only assume that she has no contact with them. Her new husbands two children came with them and one didn't like the isolation and lifestyle, so as a teenager he left home to live with other relatives and she said they never hear from him sad. While at the beginning of the book I found their lifestyle somewhat entertaining for a read but by the middle I just couldn't take the hyprocracy of them and just to be honest there were other books I would rather read. Not a bad book something that maybe deserves a skimming read rather than a lot of time put into it.
