We had a passage from this novel in our Theology 100 paper (pages 119 - 122), about the pilgrimage to Israel of a Samoan woman and her elderly father, and their feel for the land.
I decided I wanted to read the whole novel, and I enjoyed it immensely despite taking a couple of months over it (the return date at the Kinder Library is always at the end of semester, so you can get a few months or a couple of days...). It's not specifically about land, nor even about the trip to Israel. My lasting memories will be about Ola's struggles with her Samoan identity and fitting back in with her people, but also the friendship with Gill who discovered her Maori heritage and what that meant to her children.
