In 1948, Zissman emigrated from Europe to Chicago with his family, at the age of 26. He has lectured about his experiences during the Holocaust at a number of schools and organizations across the country, which he now shares in book form. The author describes Jewish life in prewar Poland, the German invasion of Poland and his incarceration in a forced labor camp, and his escape to Russia where he fought alongside Soviet partisans, only to encounter new prejudice from his Soviet comrades.
