I've been wanting to read Finnegans Wake for a few years now. However, Finnegans Wake is unreadable. I started looking for help and found this gem. This is the first time that I've read a book about a book, and it was well worth it. This book provides the "Big Picture" about Finnegans Wake with small details that explain the beauty of FW. After reading this book I feel more confident in tackling Finnegans Wake. A few tips from this book about FW:
*"James Joyce identifies Finnegans Wake as his comedia- "a commodious vicus of recirculation." (A comedia is about everything in the Universe and beyond."
*"Finnegans Wake is about the center line of the life of man and woman-the creation of the family and the shift of power when the children grow up-the great drama of the lives of imperfect human beings."
*"At the beginning of Finnegans Wake-Time does not flow forward."
*"There are only two "persons" in the Wake: The representatives of Spirit and Nature, Man and Woman, HCE and ALP."
This book is designed to be read as you read Finnegans Wake and that's key to actually get anything out of either book.
