This book is a lot of fun if you're into the "what makes it work?" kind of thing. The author rambles a bit, but it was definitely an interesting perspective on the innards of a city. The book was written in the 60's and one of the more interesting aspects, to me, was the relationship to technology that seems particular to that time. The author speaks of neighborhoods in New York that still use coal burning stoves for heat, and there is a general sense of all the technology being new. But more than that, the author approaches it as accessible, which I think is uncommon these days. There is a sense that any of the technology used could be built in my backyard, and the spectacular part is merely the scale. Anyway, lots of fun.
