Visual Dictionary of the Old West
A decent overview with good information, but by no means thorough - and given the subject, a "thorough" book would be ponderous (if it were even possible). Avid fans of the subject will probably be disappointed that the discussions on any particular animal are so brief, but it's an excellent overview and there's a good bibliography, so it's a good starting point.
The art/illustrations were quite good, but unfortunately the book often had fine, black text on dark-colored parts of the art (at least in the e-book version I read); that made reading many of captions very difficult, if not almost impossible.
