Ellis Island's Famous Immigrants (Images of America Series) Book

Due to the name of the book I would have thought there would have been more to do with Ellis Island than just a casual mention and/or no mention at all within the pages. Instead the book could have been easily called Famous Immigrants while fulfilling the same purpose and not having to even mention Ellis Island but since it didn't it is a let-down at least for me.

The book otherwise does a great job in allowing the reader to get to know some of the more famous faces that we can relate to as well as those that we may not know anything about. In many cases the reader gets a chance to know the original name that the person was under, who they came to the country for, sometimes the reason they came here, how and what they did that threw them into the limelight. Very occasionally is Ellis Island mentioned while most of the time we don't get to know what the time was like for them or how long they had to stay unless it was for the reason of actually doing the opposite such as deporting them away from our country.

Unlike some of the other Images of America book this one doesn't only have black-and-white pictures of the people being covered although not each entry has one but also either copies of newspaper clippings or other images such as music covers or film posters. Although it allows the reader a chance to compare all the contributions that have helped to make our country it also tells us about the history of xenophobia in our country as well as world events around us.

All in all it is a decent book for one who is into getting to know more about foreign-born celebrities and other famous faces. Otherwise if you are just interested in one particular person I would more or less suggest on finding books focused on that particular person instead.
