A Slow Burn

This is the second book in a trilogy following Daisy Chain where a 13-year-old girl, Daisy Chance , disappears. This second books focuses on her mother's story dealing with her loss. I did not read the first book in the trilogy.
I found A Slow Burn to be just that...slow. Even though the writing was well done and the story telling descriptive, I found the plot to be slow. It was also very dark and a little depressing for me. I was a good 200 pages into the book (of over 350 pages) before I found myself actually getting into the story. By the end, I was looking for more hope, but I didn't feel like it delivered enough. I was left feeling a little open ended. The story doesn't complete because there is still one more book in the Trilogy where I am guessing the story will wrap up. I would hope there is a little less darkness in that one.
I'm giving it 3 stars because the writing is well done and the characters have some depth. I'm taking stars away because it was too slow and repetitive and there wasn't enough completeness to the story.
